Description
Sedgemoor is a vast, mist-choked bayou that sprawls across the Witherbloom campus, forming both its natural boundary and its primary field of study. Thick wetlands, slow-moving waterways, and tangled groves of semi-sentient vegetation stretch as far as the eye can see, broken only by scattered boardwalks, hanging lantern paths, and the occasional weathered research outpost. The air is perpetually humid, carrying the scent of peat, algae, and alchemical decay.
The ecosystem of Sedgemoor is both rich and hazardous. It is home to a wide variety of creatures adapted to its shifting environment, including bats that roost in hollow cypress trees, crocodilian predators that glide beneath the surface, and mutated swamp beasts such as brackish trudges and groffs. Some regions are eerily still, while others are alive with constant movement, as if the swamp itself is breathing.
For Witherbloom students, Sedgemoor is an essential extension of the classroom. It serves as a living laboratory for potion ingredients, herbalism studies, and ecological magic. Rare fungi, medicinal herbs, spider silk, and volatile reagents are all harvested here under supervision. Even so, many areas remain officially restricted due to unpredictable magical contamination and the presence of semi-hostile magical phenomena.
Despite its dangers, Sedgemoor is deeply respected rather than feared. It is seen not as a wilderness to be conquered, but as a system to be understood.
