Early Life (Unknown–1450 DR)

Very little is publicly recorded about the early life of Dr. Halvrix Solthane. What is known is that he did not originate from Neverwinter or its surrounding regions, and first appears in academic records as a minor lecturer in behavioural thaumaturgy in eastern Faerûn.

Colleagues from this period describe him as intensely focused on the relationship between magical instability and “moral failure,” a concept he would continue to develop throughout his career.

Even in early writings, Solthane argued that:

“Chaos of the mind inevitably becomes chaos of the weave.”

The Formation of Doctrine (1450–1490 DR)

Solthane abandoned formal academic institutions after a series of disputes regarding ethical boundaries in magical experimentation. He began travelling across Faerûn, studying individuals deemed “incorrigible” by courts, academies, and noble houses.

During this time, he developed what would become the core philosophy of the Kindled Mind Programme:

• Behaviour can be corrected through structured magical reinforcement
• Emotional instability is a treatable condition
• Resistance to authority is a symptom, not a choice

His work attracted both patronage and condemnation in equal measure.

Founding of the Kindled Mind Programme (late 1490s DR)

Solthane formally established The Kindled Mind Project as a distributed network of rehabilitation facilities. The programme was initially presented as an alternative to incarceration for magically gifted individuals deemed dangerous or unstable.

Early adoption by influential families and civic bodies allowed rapid expansion across Faerûn.

Current Role (Present Day)

Although he no longer appears publicly at most facilities, Solthane is believed to still oversee:

• Curriculum design
• Core therapeutic doctrine
• Ethical guidelines (as defined internally by the programme)

His direct involvement is rare, but his influence is embedded in every level of the organisation.

• Sparse white hair worn neatly back
• Eyes are unusually still and focused, rarely breaking eye contact
• Dresses in simple, almost monastic academic robes rather than formal attire
• Carries a carved focus staff used more for presence than utility

He presents as unassuming at a distance — until he begins speaking.
