Biography

Reynard Blackstone is a man defined by precision, restraint, and the quiet weight of unresolved loss. Once a respected academic of Neverwood Academy’s Quandrix College, he now lives in self-imposed retirement in the remote settlement of Gillian’s Hill, where his work continues—albeit far from prying eyes.

Early Life & Education

Born in the city of Waterdeep, Reynard displayed an early aptitude for structured thinking and cautious decision-making—traits that drew the attention of a wizard who took him on as an apprentice. Under this mentor, Reynard developed a disciplined approach to magic, favouring predictability, logic, and control over reckless experimentation.
This philosophy led him naturally to Quandrix College at Neverwood Academy, where the mathematical and theoretical approach to magic closely aligned with his training. Reynard excelled, eventually joining the academy as a member of staff and dedicating himself to magical research and education.

Academic Career

Reynard rose through the ranks to become Professor of Substance, a position focused on the manipulation and understanding of magical matter and structure. His work was known for its rigor and reliability, and generations of students passed through his lectures with a deep respect—if not always warmth—for his methods.
Even during his tenure, Reynard was never a particularly open man. He valued knowledge, but he valued control over knowledge even more.

Family & Loss

At some point during his career, Reynard married. Little is known about his wife, and even less is spoken of her. Together they had a daughter, whom Reynard personally tutored in the arcane arts from a young age.
What began as mentorship became tension.
As his daughter grew, a rift formed between them - its cause unclear, but its consequences absolute. She left, cutting ties entirely. Reynard never saw her again.
This loss marked the end of his academic life. In 1480 DR, he retired from Neverwood and withdrew to Gillian’s Hill, a quiet town built atop ancient and heavily enchanted tombs. There, he turned his attention to studying the powerful and mysterious enchantments woven into the land itself.

The Grandchildren

In 1485 DR, Reynard’s isolation was abruptly broken when a magically delivered package appeared at his feet—inside, a child. His grandson.
He named the boy Harry.
Months later, Reynard made a second life-altering decision: he adopted another orphaned child, Adalynn Blackstone, raising the two together as siblings.
Though not an expressive man, Reynard proved a capable—if distant—guardian and teacher. He trained both children in the fundamentals of magic, instilling discipline, caution, and intellectual curiosity.

Personality & Conflict

Reynard is defined by three traits:
Secrecy. Stubbornness. Paranoia.
These qualities, once strengths in his academic life, now shape his relationships—particularly with Harry. Reynard firmly believes that withholding information about Harry’s mother is an act of protection. In his mind, knowledge is a path—and some paths must remain hidden.
Harry, however, sees only silence.
This unresolved tension forms the central fracture in their relationship:

Current Life

Reynard remains in Gillian’s Hill, continuing his research into the enchanted tomb beneath the town. His work is quieter now, but no less obsessive. Whether he studies to understand the magic—or to distract himself from the past—is a question even he may not be able to answer.
