Aurum Aethelos is the ruler of the cloud realms, once celebrated as both philosopher-king and master of storm-song. Though still powerful, he now exists in a state of torment, his emotions manifesting as violent and unpredictable weather. He is not regarded as evil, but as a tragic figure bound by an ancient curse.

Appearance

Aurum Aethelos is a colossal giant clad in cracked armour bearing the marks of age and lightning strikes. His skin resembles a storm-darkened sky, traced with faintly glowing lightning scars. Embedded in his left chest is a luminous rune shaped like a stylised eye, bound by thorn-like sigils that pulse with a life of their own. He perpetually appears exhausted, as though rest has eluded him for centuries.

History

In ages past, Aurum Aethelos sought peace between giants and the Fey, ruling through wisdom and song rather than conquest. Legends tell of a mysterious visitor who offered him forbidden knowledge — knowledge Aurum refused. The visitor departed, leaving behind a curse that bound Aurum’s heart, haunted his dreams, and transformed his emotions into destructive storms.

Current State

The magic of the sky-piercing beanstalk has destabilised Aurum’s curse, granting him brief moments of clarity followed by violent emotional collapse. His inner turmoil directly affects the environment: anger summons lightning, sorrow brings rain, and moments of calm still the skies.

Speech and Mannerisms

Aurum speaks with a voice like distant thunder, often lapsing into half-poetry and riddles. His moods shift abruptly, and he occasionally recalls knowledge he should not possess. Among his more cryptic warnings is a repeated caution to "beware the scribe who steals from the future," a phrase whose meaning remains unclear.

Despite his suffering, Aurum Aethelos remains deeply tied to the balance of the sky-islands. His fate determines the stability of the cloud realms and the future of the beanstalk that binds sky to earth.
