Summary

What begins as a desperate escape from disciplinary consequences quickly becomes a journey beyond Neverwood itself. As a runaway beanstalk pierces the clouds, the party is split by lightning, authority, and gravity — forcing staff intervention and an ultimatum from the Head Teacher herself. Those who climb higher find themselves no longer above the Academy, but elsewhere: a cloud-walking realm of giant roads, oversized cottages, and a storm giantess whose hospitality hides a far darker tale involving curses, lost love, and a shadowy figure from the Material Plane.

The Beanstalk Incident

• Marionette, Harry, Glue, and Atudark cling to the still-growing beanstalk as it rises into the clouds.
• The weather turns violent:
  • Lightning shaped like ancient runes lashes the sky.
  • The students hold on as best they can.
• Several winged Neverwood Staff fly up, begging the students to come down.
• A powerful lightning strike hits the beanstalk:
  • Marionette and Harry lose their grip and begin to fall.
  • Glue calls on Cynthia, who swoops down and rescues Marionette, returning her to the beanstalk.
  • Harry continues falling, swearing as he plummets.
• Mavinda Sharpbeak dives after Harry, catches him, and lowers him safely to the ground.
• Harry attempts to flee — only to run straight into Head Teacher Taiva Loreweaver.

Lyra Responds

• Lyra, relaxing in her dorm, hears a loud crash from somewhere on campus.
• She investigates and reaches the ground floor of the Biblioplex just in time to hear students loudly discussing:
  • A beanstalk
  • Missing students
• Rushing outside, Lyra looks up and sees a massive green beanstalk rising from a building on Lorehold Campus.
• Knowing Glue and Marionette are involved, she takes flight and follows the beanstalk upward.

An Ultimatum from the Head Teacher

• Lyra arrives to see Harry being yelled at by several staff members.
• Taiva Loreweaver delivers a blunt command:
  • “Fix whatever you caused, retrieve anything dangerous, and shut that sky portal before someone else climbs it.”
• Harry and Lyra head back up the beanstalk together.

Climbing Beyond Neverwood

• As they climb higher, the world grows stranger:
  • Lightning shaped like arcane runes.
  • Giant-sized feathers drifting down from above.
  • A distant harp note echoing on the wind.
• Eventually, they reach the top.
  • Despite the height, the air is not thin.
  • Looking back down, they see only clouds — Neverwood’s campus is completely gone.
• Glue tests the clouds by standing on them.
  • He sinks slightly but does not fall through.
  • Concluding it’s safe, he wanders off toward a distant giant road sign.
• Harry and Lyra realize they must have plane shifted and follow him.

Skyberry House

• The road sign is enormous, clearly built for creatures many times their size.
• It points east and reads: “Skyberry House.”
• With no better option, the party follows the sign.
• After a long walk, a quaint cottage appears on the horizon.
  • Everything is far too large.
  • The front steps tower over the students.
• They struggle up the steps to the door.
  • Marionette listens at the door, hearing faint singing.
  • Lyra flies up and rings the doorbell.
• The door opens to reveal a huge storm giant.
  • Half-asleep and irritated, he declares they are not taking visitors.
  • He slams the door shut.

Breaking In (Politely)

• Glue decides to squeeze through the keyhole.
  • With effort, Glue, Buhuiop, and Cynthia manage to wriggle through.
  • After briefly getting distracted, they open the door from the inside.
• The party begins exploring:
  • Shroom breaks into a cupboard and steals several pieces of blue grain.
  • Glue heads toward the singing, with Marionette and Atudark following.
  • Lyra and Harry head the opposite direction, finding an empty parlour.

Teanna of Skyberry House

• Glue makes his way through the dining room and into the kitchen.
• There he encounters a beautiful giantess.
  • With Cynthia’s help, Glue climbs onto the counter and clears his throat
  • The giantess screams briefly, then covers her mouth in shock.
• Glue apologises and asks for food.
• The giantess introduces herself as Teanna.
  • She begins cooking Glue an omelette while they talk.
• Glue explains he arrived with friends.
  • Teanna goes to find the rest of the party.
  • She finds Marionette and Shroom near the kitchen and invites them to breakfast.
  • She then heads to the parlour.

Gathering the Guests

• In the parlour, Lyra and Harry hide beneath the oversized furniture.
• Teanna notices Harry dart under a chaise lounge.
  • She kneels and makes gentle kissy noises, as if calling a cat.
• Harry cautiously emerges.
• Teanna explains she has already found some of his friends and invites him to breakfast.
• After confirming he will not be breakfast, Harry agrees.
• Teanna lifts him onto her palm and carries him to the kitchen.
  • She sets him on the counter beside Glue and Marionette.
• Teanna places a huge plate of omelette before them and encourages them to eat.
  • Marionette declines eggs and asks for coffee.
  • Teanna pours a cup and sets it on the counter.
  • Marionette climbs into the mug and bathes in the coffee.

A Curse Revealed

• As they eat, Teanna speaks of her husband.
  • He was once kind.
  • He could sing storms into rainbows.
• She explains he is now cursed:
  • “The quill found him. The quill that writes wounds into hearts.”
• The curse was placed by a powerful magic user from the Material Plane:
  • The Shadow-Handed Scribe.

Elsewhere in the House

• Meanwhile, Lyra and Atudark continue moving around the ground floor.
  • Lyra searches for anything important.
  • Atudark searches for Lyra.
• Lyra hides inside a coat cupboard.
