Summary

A lesson in magical zoology takes a fiery turn when the students face off against a Lesser Celestial Chick in their A is for Ankheg practical. Feathers, flames, and flailing ensue as the group learns that teamwork and chaos often go hand-in-hand at Neverwood. Just a few days later, the Winter Solstice Dance descends into scandal, music, and mischief when the infamous Hellhound Gang performs a song so indecent it sends one student running from the hall in tears — and sparks a new quest for the party: mending broken hearts through rock and roll.

A is for Ankheg

• The party attends their A is for Ankheg practical class at Neverwood Stadium, led by Professor Verelda Lang, Professor Quentis Orvlo, and groundskeeper Yedora.
• On the way, Harry asks several classmates if they’ve seen any chickens or birds recently.
• Glue jokes that the only bird he’s seen is Cyinth, which earns him an unimpressed look.
• Growing impatient, Cyinth storms ahead and demands the professors hurry up. The staff tell her to sit down — which she eventually does.
• Professor Lang explains the assignment: a group combat exercise against a Lesser Celestial Chick. Cyinth’s earlier outburst earns her group the first match slot.

The Celestial Chick Battle

• Cyinth, Harry, H’er, Vigilius, Lyra, and Glue enter the pitch to face the radiant bird.
• H’er opens with Magic Missile, drawing the creature’s attention.
• Harry and Glue attempt to snare the chick, but it takes flight before they can spring the trap.
• Lyra and Cyinth take to the skies, launching Guiding Bolts.
  • Lyra’s shot hits its mark, illuminating the chick in radiant light.
  • Cyinth’s overcharged bolt backfires, knocking her unconscious and sending her plummeting.
• Glue dives forward to catch Cyinth mid-fall.
• Vigilius hurls Harry onto the chick’s back in a bold move. The chick lets out a booming cluck, flinging Harry to the ground and knocking him out.
• Vigilius grapples the creature, exchanging a flurry of blows. The chick retaliates with a fiery breath, but Vigilius holds on.
• With one final strike, Vigilius defeats the celestial bird.
• Professor Verelda Lang rushes to the field, with Lyra’s help, to heal the injured students. She praises the group’s teamwork and perseverance despite the chaos.
• The students return to their dorms to rest and recover.

The Winter Solstice Dance

• A few days later, the Academy hosts its annual Winter Solstice Dance, filling the halls with light, laughter, and music.
• Students mingle, dance, and enjoy the festive atmosphere — until a group of 3rd years bursts in and takes the stage.
• They introduce themselves as The Hellhound Gang, a notorious student band known for their risqué performances.
• Their first song, “The Ballad of Chasey Lain,” sends the hall into uproarious cheers and laughter.
• However, whispers spread as students point toward a 4th-year girl who flees the hall in tears.

Cyinth vs. The Hellhound Gang

• Outraged by the vulgar lyrics, Cyinth storms the stage and confronts the band’s frontman, Jimmy Pyre.
• She attempts to slash him with her talons — Jimmy dodges, and she instead tears his shirt, exposing his chest to the crowd’s delight.
• Jimmy tells her to step off stage, promising to talk later, before launching into their next song: “The Bad Touch.”
• Watching the chaos, Glue uses his magic to make Jimmy wet himself mid-performance.
• Unfazed, the band continues, with drummer Infernal “Jarex” Houndfist pulling a Neverwood flag from his pocket and urinating on it for dramatic effect.
• Glue retaliates again, magically forcing the rest of the band to soak themselves as the crowd roars with approval.
• After the set, Jimmy explains to Cyinth that the song was meant as a love confession to Chaselienne "Chasey" Lain, a fourth-year student he’s been infatuated with.
• Cyinth calls him disgusting and tears his trousers in anger, leaving part of his muscular thigh exposed. The band awkwardly tries to defend him.

The Search for Chasey

• Concerned for Chasey Lain, Harry and Lyra leave the dance to search for her.
• Outside, Harry uses Detect Magic and spots a trail of illusion magic leading toward Silverquill Campus.
• Glue questions a Campus Guide Automaton, confirming that Chasey passed by recently.
• The party follows the trail to Grandloft Hall, where they find the Whalebucks closed.
• Some of the group help themselves to coffee, leaving coins on the counter in apology.
• Lyra eventually finds Chasey crying in a storage cupboard. H’er joins her to comfort the distraught student.
• Chasey confides that she actually has a crush on Jimmy and was initially thrilled to hear he’d written her a song — until she heard how vulgar it was, and how public the performance became.
• Though embarrassed, she admits she understands it’s his “musical style,” and only wishes she’d heard it privately first.
• She asks the party to convince Jimmy to apologise, suggesting he make a grand romantic gesture.
• The group agrees to help mend the rift between the two students.
